Ministries of Marion Avenue

Every week hundreds of children, teenagers and adults choose to ride one of our busses to church. Here we offer Sunday School classes for every age group with trained teachers who address the specific needs and struggles of their class.

All who attend the Marion Avenue Baptist Church would agree that there are few places that offer more fun and excitement than our church.

We understand that many times parents are unable to attend our services. If you wish to send your child with us to church, you can depend on the following:

    Dependable, well-maintained vehicles

Dedicated and trained teachers and workers

A consistent weekly follow-up program by trained Bus Captains and workers

Welcome to “Kid’s Crusaders”, the children’s ministry of Marion Avenue! It is so exciting to see what the Lord is doing in our church and in the lives of children. Kid’s Crusaders is a place where children can have fun and learn about God’s Word. Our Children’s Director, Charity Brown, has a great vision for the future of our children. Throughout the year, the kid’s Crusaders have summer camps, field trips, campouts, parties, and so much more! Every Sunday evening, the Kid’s Crusaders meet where they enjoy treats, games, and most importantly, lessons from God’s Word.We are looking forward to you and your child being our guest here at Kid’s Crusaders. If you have any questions about our children’s ministries, or if we can help you in any way, please let us know.

This is a youth conference hosted by the Marion Avenue Baptist Church of Washington, Iowa. We are a Biblical, Independent, Fundamental Baptist Church. We believe in one Bible, the King James Bible.  We believe in old-fashioned Bible preaching, teaching and Christ honoring music. We are not affiliated with or supported by any college or denomination.  This is a solid youth conference you can trust.

The teen years can be confusing, difficult, and challenging! But they can also be awesome! Through Sunday classes, weekly outreach, regular scheduled activities, annual trips, retreats, and programs, the teens at Marion Avenue are challenged and equipped to live for Christ while they are in their youth. Each year, the teens can look forward to camps, trips, outreach events, fun activities, and many opportunities to grow in God’s Word. Our teens have the unique opportunity to host the National Our Time youth conference. Another exciting part of the youth ministry here at Marion Avenue is our Teen Church designed just for teenagers! We do everything within our power to provide the Bible-based wisdom that teens need, combined with the friendly atmosphere that teens enjoy!

The Marion Avenue nursery facility is an up-to-date, clean nursery. We have an all female nursery staff that is well trained in keeping your child happy and safe during your visit. Any children, birth through thirty-six months, are allowed in our nursery.

We offer songs, stories, snacks and plenty of room to play for your older child, as well as swings, bouncy seats and “grandma laps” to hold and rock the smaller ones.

When you arrive, the nursery staff will greet you at the door and take you and your child’s name, and any instructions you have. They will then mark each item left for the child with their name. For the safety of your child, You will be given a pager so the workers can contact you if you are needed during the service and only the person with the pager will be allowed to pick up the child or remove him/her from the nursery for any reason.

In order to keep our nursery healthy, children showing signs of illness or fever will not be allowed.

We look forward to the privilege of caring for your child in our nursery!

Marion Avenue is blessed to have a very active music program. In addition to regular congregational singing, each service we are blessed to have two music specials by various groups and two choir specials by our fifty voice choir.

In addition to singing in the main services at Marion Avenue, several of our groups often sing for various community events such as the Memorial Day service, Veterans Day Dinner, and other events held in Washington County.

Several of the groups from Marion Avenue have recorded professional albums. We as a church are so blessed to have musicians who use their gifts to honor God through song.

Over the past three decades, Marion Avenue Baptist Church has supported many mission works throughout the world. Throughout this time Marion Avenue Baptist has maintained a heart for the world-wide work of God. Marion Avenue Baptist currently supports more than 100 missionaries who are taking the gospel of Christ throughout the world. These missionaries are supported through and sent by local independent Baptist churches. The members of Marion Avenue Baptist have made the financial support of global evangelization a high priority, and the church’s missions budget is a very vital part of our church. In the past thirty-five years, Marion Avenue has sent out many of their own members into the mission field. Our Pastor’s own sister and brother-in-law are missionaries to Tanzania, East Africa. You may view their work through this link In addition to foreign missions, Marion Avenue Baptist is continually involved in helping to train young men and women to go out and start churches, pastor, and work in other churches across America.

Our Senior Citizens ministry is more affectionately known as the “Jolly Sixties”. Every Sunday morning the “Jolly Sixties” class meets at 10:00am for a time of refreshment and studying God’s Word. Here at Marion Avenue, the Senior Saints are treated with respect and love. If any of our Seniors need help with anything throughout the week, we are always there to fulfill that need.

The first Thursday of every month our Jolly Sixties club meets at Marion Avenue for a time of music, games, preaching, and then a delicious meal to follow. In addition to the weekly class and monthly club, we offer many outings designed for the elderly. Among them are, sightseeing excursions, delicious meals at area restaurants, and much more!

We provide a state of the art, fully handicapped shuttle for all seniors needing a ride to church. If you would like to participate in one of our Jolly Sixty programs, please contact the church office at 319.653.4113

Since 1973, thousands of people have trusted Christ as their personal Saviour through our services, classes, and ministries. Each week many of our members participate in volunteer community outreach throughout Southeast Iowa. Not only are these outreach meetings a time of fellowship, their purpose is to spend time visiting and reaching the lost with the Gospel of Christ. For those new to organized outreach, we train by pairing with experienced staff.

Marion Avenue Baptist Church has a Spanish ministry that reaches out to the Spanish communities in the area. Washington, Iowa and its surrounding areas average about 2-4% Hispanics. Within 45 minutes driving distance to the church there are at least 7,000 Spanish people that need the Gospel or need to attend a local Baptist church and grow in grace. We have Spanish people from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and even a few from Puerto Rico. The Spanish population is slowly growing and we are now seeing the mission field come to us.

Iglesia Bautista Marion Avenue has a full Spanish church program. We have Sunday school and two services on Sunday and a midweek service on Wednesday night. We have many activities and there is also an organized Saturday soul winning time where at least a dozen men and women or more have breakfast and go out to knock on doors and try to win people to Christ. The services are in Spanish and we have seen hundreds receive Christ as their Savior. Most converts hear the Gospel in their own Spanish language. There are many Spanish people that speak little English or no English at all that are attending services and receive Bible teaching and preaching in their native tongue. The Spanish church is now running on average 130 people on Sunday and over 50 people on Thursday nights. We have one bus route running in the city of Columbus Junction bringing in an average of 25 riders and we pray that one day God will allow us to start more routes to be able to reach more people!

Iglesia Bautista Marion Avenue is run by assistant pastor Randy Bingham. Pastor Bingham and his family would like to invite you to come and visit our Spanish work at any of our services and encourage you to let us know of any Spanish speaking friends you may have in this area!

The thing that drew us to this church in the first place was it's heart for the lost! We've never seen anything like it before!  We have found friends here and true meaning in life!  We love this church and it's people and wouldn't trade it for anything!

Ebersole Family; Wellman, Iowa

Marion Avenue Baptist Church is more than a Church, it is a family. Never have we been to a place that is more friendly. We are loved and cared for and most importantly, fed from the word of God.  It's a little piece of Heaven on Earth. We are so thankful that we get to raise our boys under the teachings/preaching of Pastor Joseph Brown.

MABC is a little "Paradise On Earth" for us. This amazing church accepts anybody with love and friendship. Not only do we have solid Gospel messages week after week from our young Preacher Brown, but we can enjoy good, old-time music, lots of exciting events and an abundance of caring and loyal friends.

P. Frier; Washington, Iowa

We love this church because it is still teaching and standing on the same Biblical truths it did 40 yrs ago. It's a place where you are taught how to build strong Christian families and marriages. We have made so many wonderful friends here!  It's a church that's alive and that has a burden for the lost.
